Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition
PPS East Ltd exhibited at the recent Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition, held in Iceland between 22 and 24 September 2011.
This is the first time PPS has exhibited at this event that started in 1984 and is held on a three-year cycle. The scale of this exhibition has increased year on year in response to the wishes of the exhibiting companies.
The exhibition covers every aspect of the commercial fishing industry and PPS decided to participate this year to promote their services connected to returnable transit packaging – plastic crate and fish box rental, box pool management and transit equipment washing. The Grimsby-based company has recently entered an agreement with local Icelandic company Icebox ehf to represent them in Iceland and to promote their services to the Icelandic fishing and seafood sectors.
PPS East Ltd recently moved into a much larger, modern facility at the Omega Business Park in Grimsby where they have installed state-of-the-art industrial wash lines used for cleaning fish boxes, fish crates, plastic pallets and box pallets.
The company has many years experience in the pool management of returnable transit packaging, both at Grimsby and their other site at Measham in the Midlands. The PPS East site in Grimsby mainly manages fish boxes and tubs for the seafood and fishing sectors, while the Midlands site is primarily concerned with the meat, poultry, dairy, retail and automotive sectors.
The PPS presence at this exhibition strengthened the company’s stated goal of expanding its activities in this sector and a considerable number of new contacts and potential sales leads were identified.
From the PPS side during this exhibition were Andy Flynn, Operations Director and Kate Williamson, Sales Executive. Andy Flynn commented afterwards:
“We made the decision to exhibit in Iceland as we are a dynamic business, promoting our services in the fresh fish industry. Using returnable transit packaging such as plastic fish boxes and plastic pallets in place of the old system of single use means we not only offer our customers improved cost efficiencies, but we also considerably improve their carbon emissions.
However this is just the start and we are now working closely with our colleagues from Icebox ehf who have long experience in the local market. There are a number of new opportunities for us in returnable packaging in this region where we believe we can bring cost-effective solutions”
