PPS at Foodex 2012

PPS, a business specialising in all aspects of returnable transit packaging will exhibit at Foodex 2012, held at the NEC 25 – 27 March.

The company has two locations, PPS Midlands, based at Measham and PPS East at Grimsby. The two operations will combine efforts and expertise to exhibit at Foodex for the first time in a number of years.

Both the PPS businesses offer customers a similar package structure in terms of returnable transit equipment. They have a pool of plastic crates, plastic boxes and plastic pallets which are rented out to clients who use them to deliver their goods to their own customers, advising PPS by means of the PPS proprietary online asset tracking system the location and volume of equipment at third parties. PPS then arranges collection of the used equipment and returns it to either Measham or Grimsby where they have industrial grade wash facilities, washing to the highest hygiene standards. The Measham site is ISO 22000 accredited and the Grimsby operation has just been awarded BRC Certification.

Both sites work predominately within the food sector; PPS Midlands works with a number of clients throughout the region and beyond mainly in the meat, poultry, dairy, bakery and retail sectors. PPS East has traditionally operated in the fish and seafood sectors, but in 2012 will look at expanding their scope into other non-fish food areas.

PPS has been actively expanding its operations in plastic crates, plastic boxes and plastic pallets in the food industry over the past couple of years, and felt that Foodex was a good showcase event to show their range of services connected to returnable transit packaging. PPS recently commissioned a survey comparing carbon footprint of their returnable packaging compared to single trip packaging such as cardboard boxes or expanded polystyrene boxes. This survey showed considerable improvement in carbon emissions using returnable packaging compared to one-way trip boxes.

Both the PPS operations and their services will be comprehensively promoted during the forthcoming Foodex exhibition and PPS invites all interested parties to visit them on Stand G282.

Joanne Moss, Sales Executive at PPS Midlands said, “We haven’t participated in any exhibitions for a few years, but now with an expanded and improved range of services at both locations, we felt we wanted to reach a wider prospective audience within the food industry. And with the addition to our overall product and service portfolio that our Grimsby operation brings we felt it was high time to put ourselves into the market place for all potential customers considering the use of returnable transit packaging. We believe more and more businesses are becoming aware of the benefits of carbon emission reduction and this fits perfectly with our services.”
